Have you written up your playbook yet?

You might have heard about this—there’s a “How to Succeed in MrBeast Production” guide circulating online, in which MrBeast has outlined everything he’s learned about running his business and how new team members can succeed.

As companies grow and new employees are hired, passing on all the accumulated knowledge can be challenging, especially if you’re a no-budget marketer. You’ve probably been running in a dozen different directions each day.

But you have to begin sometime. Have you considered creating your playbook?

Below in this issue, we’ll take a quick look at how you can get started.

Taking the first step with your playbook

Documenting everything you do at work can feel overwhelming, but we now have tools to make it easier. For example, anyone with a smartphone can use speech-to-text features.

You can then plug that text into free AI tools like ChatGPT, which can help organize your thoughts into a playbook that teaches someone how to do your job.

More importantly, documenting things, whether informal or even in a slightly messy way, is better than not doing it at all. We often let the pursuit of perfection stop us from simply getting things done. Starting with something is better than keeping it all in your head, where it’s useless to those needing a playbook.

Just look at the playbook MrBeast put together—it’s extensive but imperfect, with little things like missing capital letters and even "lol" scattered throughout. But it's still incredibly valuable.

Set a goal and try these techniques

Can you set a goal for yourself for the week and get started on your playbook? If nothing else comes to mind as a starting point, hit record on your phone and say, “Ok, this is the first thing you need to do if you want to do my job…”

Another way to get started is to have a friend ask you questions about what you do all day and record the discussion. Then, pull the transcript and plug it into AI, asking for a summary and an outline for a playbook on how to do the job.

Finally, you can list each task you do this week. By Friday, you should have a nice long list of things your job includes. Take that list and add details below each task on how you do that job.

Do you have other techniques you’ve tried? Let me know.
