Picture one person to get started

What’s the best way to reach thousands of people?

Imagine one person. Just one.

Not the dozens, hundreds, or thousands on your email list or looking at an ad you’re going to run. Not the broad audience you’re trying to reach. Just one specific person who needs your message today.

What do they care about? What’s keeping them up at night? What small but significant way could you make their life easier, better, or more meaningful?

When you write, picture this person in vivid detail. See them sitting down at their desk to begin their work, opening their inbox, or scrolling their feed. Feel the weight of their current struggle, their joys, and other emotions.

Then, craft your content to meet them exactly where they are. Solve their problem, answer their question, and lighten their load.

The beauty of this approach is that it forces clarity. When you try to please everyone, you might not please anyone.

But writing for one person makes your message sharp and specific, cutting through the noise of everyday life and thousands of brands talking to the masses.

Writing for one is writing for many

When you write for one person, you often resonate with many.

Why?

Because your one person’s fears, desires, and challenges are usually shared by others in your audience. They might not all be in the same place on their journey, but they’ll recognize themselves in your words. And that recognition builds trust. They know you understand them and what they’re looking for.

So, the next time you write, forget about reaching the masses. Find your one person. Speak to them as if no one else is listening. Because in that moment, they’re the only one who matters. It’s just you, showing them how your product can help.

Be genuine and talk to them like you’d want your favorite companies to talk to you.

This can work in email marketing, social media posts, window signs, and so much more.

Good luck!
